You'd have to be on another planet to not know that the Olympics is on at the moment and although I'm not really a big fan I do catch the odd news report now and then and without fail the event is a "100 metres" this or "400 metres" that. Even the American chap who's breaking records for winning more medals than anybody else is competing in events measured exclusively in metric! |

While writing last week's blog I heard a rumour that the AA was due to publish the results of a survey claiming that "a large majority of AA members are opposed to metric road signs in the UK"... |

Decimalisation of Britain's currency back in 1971 is often used as a good example of how we can actually do something right and how metrication could have proceeded if done the right way. This being the case I was flabbergasted when I read some of the comments posted against a recent article in the on-line edition of The Guardian. |

The economy has been in the news a lot in the last few weeks and it will have been hard to avoid the effects of the increase in the cost of fuel and food or the slow down in the housing market and under those circumstances the completion of Britain's metrication programme and the potential cost isn't something that any politician wants to be blamed for. |
